Dr. Tommy Bischoff • LMFT • LMFT-S

CERTIFIED GRIEF COUNSELING SPECIALIST

My therapy approach is very collaborative. I believe you are the expert of your life and I will work with you to achieve your goals. Research clearly indicates that having a good relationship between the therapist and client is crucial for positive outcomes to occur. I listen empathically, express compassion, and strive to create a safe space for you to express yourself. Together we will explore, process, and develop skills that will assist you in reaching your goals. I believe that every person has the capacity to heal and improve, and therapy is a great place to work through whatever challenge you may face.

With over ten years of experience, I am knowledgeable and well-trained in the science and art of helping people. I earned my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northern Illinois University. From there, I went on to pursue my Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Connecticut. I am an AAMFT Approved Supervisor and offer supervision to clinicians working towards full licensure. Additionally, I have supervised and taught students in graduate Marriage and Family Therapy programs- training students to become therapists.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I look at situations from a systemic and relational lens. This means that it is important to examine one’s self, relationships, and environment and how each of these interact and influence each other. Understanding these relationships will bring greater awareness and opportunity for change.

My specialty is working with couples and individuals- particularly relationship issues. My clinical focus also includes, but is not limited to: infertility, infidelity, work-related interpersonal stress, grief and loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, family conflict, and spirituality. I am a LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist. I have completed Level 1 and Level 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and use Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my work. Additionally, I am a Gottman 7 Principles Leader as well as a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist.

*The South Carolina Professional Counselors Board has granted me approval as a Professional Counselor Telehealth Provider. My credential number is (Credential # 151).
